18 Year Old From FL Becomes Youngest Barrister (Lawyer) in UK in 600 Years
By: Krystle Crossman
Gabrielle Turnquest is a remarkable woman. At the young age of 18 she is the youngest qualified barrister in Wales and England. She is also the youngest person to ever pass the Bar exam. At the age of just 17 she got her Graduate Diploma in Law from the University of Law. The average age of lawyers who take the Bar is 27.
Gabrielle does not want to be a lawyer in the UK however so she is returning to her home state of Florida where she hopes to become a fashion lawyer. In the UK she would have to study for another year before she would be able to work. She is also thinking about becoming a lawyer in the Bahamas as she was called to the Bar there and that is where her parents are from.
Gabrielle is very humble about her accomplishments and during an interview with the Daily Telegraph she told them that she didn’t even realize that she was the youngest to pass the Bar and didn’t really know the full impact it really had. At the age of 16 she had made history being the youngest person to get an undergraduate degree in psychology which she got at Liberty University which is in Virginia.
Before 2009 this would not have been possible for Gabrielle as the youngest age that someone could be called to the Bar was 21, but a law was passed that removed that restriction. She will now be attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising so that she can get into the fashion law market. She would also like to sit for the multi-state Bar in the US at some point.
Is It ADHD, Or Is It…
According to doctors, diagnosing ADD/ADHD can be very difficult. One reason for this is the fact that the ADHD shares many symptoms with quite a few other health conditions.
Here are some of the top conditions with symptoms that mimic those of ADHD:
People with autism can seem to lack the ability to create emotional bonds and can struggle with interactions with others. They are also often over-excited when in high stimulus environments, which can seem like hyperactivity, a classic ADHD symptom. In addition, both children with ADHD and children with autism can have a hard time adjusting to change.
A Hearing Problem
People that suffer from hearing impairments can experience problems in social situations and may have underdeveloped communication. They may have a hard time paying attention because of their inability to hear properly. Undiagnosed hearing loss can appear as missing details of conversations, not listening or not paying attention. These symptoms are also common in individuals with ADHD.
Hypothyroidism can create feelings of sadness or depression. People with ADHD can also suffer from these feelings, especially if depression is a co-existing condition.
Hypothyroidism also includes symptoms of inability to concentrate and memory problems. ADHD also includes the symptom inability to concentrate, and forgetfulness can be mistaken for memory loss.
